Brose Sindelfingen wins Manufacturing Excellence Award 2009

Berlin/Sindelfingen (November 20, 2009). Brose’s Sindelfingen plant has won the Best Practice prize in the Process Innovation category of this year’s Manufacturing Excellence Award (MX Award). Thanks to its “excellent results in process innovation, combined with highly effective implementation and a remarkable spirit in the pursuit of process improvements”, Brose won out over some 40 other well-known companies, demonstrating its production competence and competitiveness in the German business environment.

The MX Award is part of a benchmarking competition for identifying, documenting and assessing best-practice concepts. Its motto is “Identify strengths – set standards”. Entries to the competition are judged by the Logistics Division at the Technical University of Berlin.

Sindelfingen’s Managing Director Jan Franke accepted the award at the ceremony in the Bode Museum in Berlin. “Developing such an efficient and innovative production facility in such a short time was possible only through excellent cooperation among the various organizational units and strong commitment by the persons involved,” he said. “In these difficult economic times it is especially important that we continue to develop innovative process solutions; in periods of crisis the speed of change is a major success factor.”

The Sindelfingen plant relies on best-practice solutions from more than ten years of JIS manufacturing, a newly developed paperless production control system (e-production) and rigorous implementation of the Brose Productivity System (BPS). In addition, the plant puts great emphasis on streamlining production by using state-of-the-art IT solutions and developing a transparent shop floor management system with employee involvement. The Sindelfingen plant calls its production concept “dynamic and systematic” because it continually adapts to customer needs and rising pressure from competition.
