Brose redefines working world

For one year now, about 500 employees have actually been implementing the concept of the "Brose New Working World" in the new research and development center of the door system business division at the location of Hallstadt.

Coburg/Hallstadt. In early 2001, the Brose Group began to introduce major reforms at their locations of Coburg and Hallstadt near Bamberg. “Our objective is to clearly enhance economic efficiency and to make office tasks less tedious. Inspired by the progressive methods and technologies implemented by New Economy businesses, we have introduced the organizational and working model “New Brose Working World” for our staff in administrative and development areas,” explains Martin Horn, the project manager responsible for the introduction of the New Brose Working World. He continues: “We are transferring performance principles, which have long been practiced in our manufacturing area, to administrative functions.”

Reasons for introducing the “Brose Working World” included the difficult competitive environment in the automotive industry, the increased pricing pressure of the automakers as well as the fierce fight for the best employees. The Brose Group is engaged in the development and production of components and systems for vehicle doors and seats at more than 20 locations worldwide.

“If a family-run company is determined to compete with the mega-suppliers, it simply has to be better. This means having the better employees if we are to achieve this aim in the long-term,” explains Horn. The New Brose Working World provides employees with the greatest possible flexibility with regard to their workplace and working time, enabling us to recruit top personnel as well as motivating our own staff to work in a customer-oriented and performance-driven manner.

This is a groundbreaking concept in Germany, consisting of four major elements: a flexible office concept with desk sharing and the most sophisticated IT structure, including a worldwide satellite network, variable working time, a performance-driven remuneration and appraisal system as well as attractive social facilities. “The New Brose Working World has made it possible for us to finally break away from the rigid structures inherent in a traditional work environment and strict working hours,” says Martin Horn.

Innovative Office Concept

The principles of maximum transparency, economic efficiency and democracy are reflected in the recently completed office buildings in Coburg and Hallstadt. This is where approximately 1,200 employees have actually begun to put this revolutionary working model into practice, engendering a working atmosphere of openness, communication and flexibility.

Depending on the different tasks at hand, it is possible for the employees required for a cross-functional project to sit together.

Centrally-located areas equipped with coffee machines and TV sets, designed for taking a break, are ideal meeting points for the spontaneous exchange of information.

There are professionally-trained physiotherapists on hand to advise employees and their families when they work out in the company's fitness studio.
